This chapter unlike some of the others was very interesting to me. E-books are a tool that has been around for at least ten years now. I have used e-books myself and personally enjoy reading hardcover books more. E-books has always been known to me as chapter books or textbooks turned into an electronic format. Never have I ever know that children’s books are available as e-books as well. I really love the idea of using e-books in the classroom. Almost every idea brought up is something I would like to explore more. I do not believe that e-books should be used so much that libraries are unnecessary however; I do that the option should be available.   As mentioned in chapter 4, I absolutely think that every classroom should include a center where e-books are available for students use. Another issue brought up in this chapter was the cost of e-books. This chapter mentioned that although many people think e-books are really expensive, they are actually cheaper th...
One thing I learned about in this chapter is the idea of online vocabulary books. Many of the classrooms I have been in, have spelling books where they write down words they asked the teacher how to spell. I have never seen any type of vocabulary book in a classroom. The idea of using online vocabulary books is very interesting to me because you can add in so many other ways of remembering the meaning of the word instead of just the definition. Another wonderful idea I learned about in this chapter was the idea of having students listen to e-books. Many people stress that e-books are bad because they might teach children that reading on their own is not important. Although children may get the idea that e-books are better than learning to read, they teach children about fluency. Fluency can also be taught during read alouds when the teach reads to the children however, the children learn more from hearing many different voices read to them. A final new thing I lear...
Chapter three for the most part was all about voice thread. After reading about voice thread I thought it was a really cool idea that I would consider using in my classroom. I love how it encourages students to use more than just pictures. It teaches children all about different elements of story telling. The only problem I have with this idea is that using all of these online elements makes it so that students do not have to say much if not anything about themselves when showing the finished product because they already said it all with the program. It was also amazing to me that something that sounds so simple for me to do myself, is not so simple for children to do. Although the thought of this activity is so cool, it would potentially take days for the simple fact that they would need to be show how to do every little aspect of the project. Children in kindergarten or even first grade may have even more trouble with this activity because they do not yet know ho...
