Chapter three for the most part was all about
voice thread. After reading about voice thread I thought it was a really cool
idea that I would consider using in my classroom. I love how it encourages
students to use more than just pictures. It teaches children all about
different elements of story telling. The only problem I have with this idea is
that using all of these online elements makes it so that students do not have
to say much if not anything about themselves when showing the finished product
because they already said it all with the program. It was also amazing to me
that something that sounds so simple for me to do myself, is not so simple for
children to do. Although the thought of this activity is so cool, it would
potentially take days for the simple fact that they would need to be show how
to do every little aspect of the project. Children in kindergarten or even
first grade may have even more trouble with this activity because they do not
yet know how to type. Throughout high school and college it has been encouraged
in the first couple of weeks of school to get to know other students in the
class. I have done this in many different ways including icebreakers and PowerPoint
presentation. It never really occurred to me that elementary aged children do
not typically learn about each other. For younger children especially, it is
nice to teach children that not everyone is the same and not all families are
the same.
