Something new I learned in this chapter is that technology for the most part is no longer optional. When I was younger, there were computer labs with desktop computers available however they were not something the teacher had to utilize. Even when I was in high school just a few years ago, it was a special day to get to use computers and not something we did everyday. I always thought that I would get to choose if I wanted to integrate technology into my classroom. I didn’t understand until this chapter and this class that it is specifically part of the state standards to use technology. When I choose to take this class, I knew it was about using technology in your classroom however; I expected it to be more of suggestions of things you could do. One thing I learned from this chapter is that Computer class is no longer enough to teach children how to use computers. When many of us were younger, there were not many things to do with a computer. Today there is a whole wide range of things to do on a computer. My own grandmother calls on the phone to ask us to look up things for her because she does not understand how to use Google. Before reading this chapter, it never occurred to me that were not born knowing how to use everything a computer and or the Internet has. One thing that interested me was the fact that children think of a computer as a place to go for fun and not as a place to learn. Even though I use a computer everyday I never thought that my students would be using them.   Even just throughout high school for me, it was a special day to get to use the computers.
