This
chapter did not provide me with as many new ideas as previous chapters have.
This chapter was primarily about writing responses to stories read. Throughout
my life I have always had some assignment where I had to write an essay or
paragraph about my option about the book we had read or list questions I still
had. As far as I can remember the questions I had were never answered. Being able to post writing responses online
is a wonderful idea. I think it is great to be able to see what other children
think about the book they have read. It is also a great way for children to
start a discussion with each other by commenting on other children’s posts.
Writing responses do not only have to be read after reading the book yourself.
Children can provide links and videos to enhance their responses for anyone who
has not read the book themselves. Making these public may be a great idea
because children may try harder when writing their responses since they know
anyone including their parents may view what they have written. This chapter
did not include very many helpful websites to use in the classroom. Websites
like Blogmeister, Kidblog, and Blogger were mentioned as great websites to use
to create free blogs. SpiderScribe, Bubbl.us, and Slatebox are websites that
children may use to create mind maps. Mind maps are maps where anything can be
uploaded and added to it such as images, maps, and calendars. Children can also
create their own stories with each other by using websites such as Google Docs,
Zopler, and MixedInk. Storybird is another website for creating stories however
with this one you can create a visual story with pictures. Zooburst on the
other hand is a website where children are able to create 3D storybooks. The last
website mentioned in thus chapter was Comic Creator where children have the
ability to create their own comic strips.
