One
thing I learned about in this chapter is the idea of online vocabulary books.
Many of the classrooms I have been in, have spelling books where they write down
words they asked the teacher how to spell. I have never seen any type of
vocabulary book in a classroom. The idea of using online vocabulary books is
very interesting to me because you can add in so many other ways of remembering
the meaning of the word instead of just the definition. Another wonderful idea
I learned about in this chapter was the idea of having students listen to
e-books. Many people stress that e-books are bad because they might teach
children that reading on their own is not important. Although children may get
the idea that e-books are better than learning to read, they teach children
about fluency. Fluency can also be taught during read alouds when the teach
reads to the children however, the children learn more from hearing many
different voices read to them. A final new thing I learned from this chapter
was the idea of virtual classrooms. I personally always thought that if there
wasn’t money in the schools budget for a field trip then it just didn’t happen.
Field trips now a day can happen right in the classroom. If you don’t have the
money to take the class to see dinosaurs, that’s ok because, they can see them
right from their classroom. The children can even go as far as learning about
space live from someone in space with NASSA. I personally use the Internet in
many different ways every day. As I continue to take this class and read this
textbook, it continues to amaze me the amount of things offered on the Internet
that I would never have known about. The internet is stigmatized to brainwash
children when there is a giant range of educational uses that no one even knows
about.
Can't figure out why people didn't comment!
