Something new I learned in
this chapter is that technology for the most part is no longer optional. When I
was younger, there were computer labs with desktop computers available however
they were not something the teacher had to utilize. Even when I was in high
school just a few years ago, it was a special day to get to use computers and
not something we did everyday. I always thought that I would get to choose if I
wanted to integrate technology into my classroom. I didn’t understand until
this chapter and this class that it is specifically part of the state standards
to use technology. When I choose to take this class, I knew it was about using
technology in your classroom however; I expected it to be more of suggestions
of things you could do. I didn’t understand that this day in age we would have
to use it in classrooms. When I was in about 10th grade, overhead
projectors on the ceiling were just being installed. One teacher had told me
that they were going to need to take a class on how to use it. After reading
this I am realizing that I am most likely going to have to learn how to use
projectors and smart boards and anything else we will have to use in our
classrooms. It is truly amazing to me
that as much as I thought I knew everything there is to know about technology, I
will still have to learn so many new things about it in order to be able to integrate
it into my classroom. It is also amazing to me that so many parents are against
their children using any form of technology because they do not want them to
become addicted. So many people think technology is solely for social media and
games but they do not realize there are so many educational ways to use it.
Interesting..
